Radiation Detection and Evaluation Center

I. Introduction of the center


    The Radiation Detection and Evaluation Center of Institute of Radiation Medicine Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, with its advantageous resources as a national-level institute, provides services involving personal dose monitoring, radiological protection monitoring, diagnostic equipment quality control & monitoring, pre-/control evaluation of occupationally hazardous radiation protection. The center has 20 staffs, all with a bachelor degree or above, 8 of which have senior titles. The center has also established its advisory group, which has 2 national-level radiation health experts, and 3 Tianjin radiation health experts. The Institute of Radiation Medicine has won the qualification certificate of metrology attestation issued by Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (Figure 1), Class A qualification certificate for radiation health service agencies issued by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (Figure 2), and occupational health service organization certificate issued by Tianjin Administration of Work Safety (Figure 3), thereby the accuracy of monitoring and evaluation results is ensured.

    In recent years, the major cooperation partners that we provide service to are: CNOOC (China) Ltd. Tianjin Branch, the Logging Branch of CNPC Bohai Drilling Engineering Company Limited, the 18th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, Tianjin Soda Plant, Jinshan Cable, Baker Hughes Asia Pacific Ltd., Tianjin First Central Hospital, the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Central Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tianjin Fourth Central Hospital, General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Children's Hospital, Tianjin Huanhu Hospital, Blood Diseases Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Tianjin An Ding Hospital, Tianjin Cancer Hospital, the Second People's Hospital of Tianjin, Tianjin academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital.

II. Main instruments


    The Institute of Radiation Medicine has been equipped with monitoring equipment with excellent performance, including Thermoluminescence (TL) measuring device, bed-type whole body scan counter, surface contamination meter, personal radiation detectors, x,γ-ray survey meter, annealing furnace, low background α,β measuring system, flat standard sources, radon detector, electron spin resonance instrument, neutron dose equivalent meter, CR/DR digital photography monitoring mold, DSA test tools, dose area product meter, CT dosimeter, activity meter, etc.

IV. Expert profile


Wu Quan, assistant researcher and national registered nuclear safety engineer, graduated from radiology major of Jilin University (formerly Norman Bethune University of Medical Science) in 2002. Since 2007, he has won the qualification of preparing occupationally hazardous radiation protection reports for construction projects, the qualifications of quality management internal auditor and quality supervisor, and he is an authorized signatory for national measurement accreditation and reports of the institution. He has won one Grade II Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, and one Grade III Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, one Grade III Chinese Medicine Award, the outstanding individual award of the second Tianjin "Health Guardian Cup". He is the author of more than 30 papers.
Zhang Liangan, researcher and doctoral supervisor, graduated from Department of Physics of Sichuan University in 1965. He is deputy director of the Radiological Medicine and Protection Society of Chinese Medical Association, deputy director of the National Radiological Health Protection Standards Committee, and executive director of Chinese Nuclear Society for Radiation Protection. He is mainly engaged in research work involving radiology, radiation protection and radiation dosimetry.
Zhang Wenyi, Ph.D., researcher and postgraduate tutor. In face of the growing anti-terrorism need, he established rapid dose reconstruction methods for nuclear and radiological accidents, provided fast, reliable radiation dose data for the timely development of medical care protocol for irradiated population, and provided scientific data for decision-making system; he conducted the evaluation of occupationally hazardous radiation protection for construction projects, studied neutron contamination level and the level of induced radioactive dose at medical accelerator workplace, studied radiation protection and radiation dose medical in the applications new medical radiation technologies, and carried out the development of national occupational health standards. He was the winner of one Grade III National Science and Technology Progress Award, two Grade II provincial-level science and technology achievement prizes, and three Grade III provincial-level science and technology achievement prizes. He has around 100 academic papers, and is the first or corresponding author for 31 of them; he has 18 SCI papers, and is the first or corresponding author for 5 of them.
